quote walllee: "Anybody been? hows the fishing?"
I just traveled through Walter Lake last August. In fact, Walter Lake was where I caught the first fish of my trip. It was a rather large Smallmouth Bass that I caught while trolling a line behind my canoe as I paddled across the Lake.
I don't know if that's indicative of the fishing potential of Walter Lake, or if I was just lucky. I was just paddling through the lake on my way to the next portage.

Been several times Mid June Good topwater bass fishing also caught a few nice pike, biggest was just shy of 40in. Did not catch many walleyes but we also did not target them. also stayed 2 days in early September, fishing was not as good as it had been in June. caught mostly Bass and again several nice sized pikes. I prefer the campsite on the north shore close to the portage to Elizabeth. If you stay on Walter you have the option of daytripping into Draper, Elizabeth, lonely. I prefer the lakes around Walter, but the fishing can be quite good. Anthony

Ben through there a couple times -- never fished it. I have never heard of Walter being a fishing "destination" lake, as I have for say, Jesse or Lonely. (And I don't think I have any "fish here" markings on my maps at Walter.) Furtman's book says Walter has all of the big four - trout, pike, walleye and SMB. I'd love to hear a fishing report if you go. ==Goose
Soloing is sweet, but a good partner is "priceless."

Been on Walter on multiple trips. Only fished it once, while staying on Jesse... but did have some nice northerns that day.
There is a nice campsite on an island there, it is either PX or PY on the PCD, not sure which.
I hadn't heard of this book, but I just found it on Amazon. Thanks!

IMO, any(!) lake in Quetico that's smooth as glass is "Heaven." Seriously, the whole area between Jesse and Sturgeon -- Elizabeth/Walter/Lonely -- is one of my favorites. --Goose

I totally agree with you "OGG"! It's also less traveled from my experience. During a solo trip through those lakes last August, I did not see anyone from the time I left Jesse Lake until later in the day on Sturgeon Lake.

OGG,
I am headed to the Walter, Elizabeth, Jesse area at the end of the month. I would some fishing information from someone who knows the area well, including depths, water color, plastic color choices. Is that something you would be will to share? I will be targeting walleye specifically. I am not trying to steal anyone's secrets just interested in putting some fish in the boat. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,

Fished it a bit two summers ago. the first week of June. The fishing was very good for smallmouth mostly 16-19 inch and walleyes 15-23 inch. Caught several pike in the 30-34 inch range. Only fished it for a day, but the fish were all shallow and it seemed like everywhere, or at least everywhere you would think they would be. Would love to fish it again with more time, maybe see about the lakers. Beautiful lake.
So many fish,so little time

That's good to know about Draper, I've always been curious about it.
