Camp Notes:
We wanted this campsite more than any other on our trip because our outfitter billed it as the best campsite in the Boundary Waters. Had the weather been different, I do think that would have been the case, but the weather was particularly bad because of the layout of the site. We had 5 people, 3 tents and 3 canoes. The tents fit, we all had mostly root free sleeping space. Plenty of room to land canoes and we had plenty of space to pull them off the water at night. The site sits up above a small lake that you have to yourself. We sat and watched beavers building below for hours, turtles were laying eggs at the shoreline and the snakes were a fun touch. We didn't catch any fish on the lake, we tried for many hours. But we did see another group passing by and catch one right in front of our faces. It was demoralizing, but it was encouraging to know that the lake had fish in it. It was 90+ degrees the day of our stay and the afternoon was hot in the site. There isn't a lot of shade, this provides beautiful views, but also a very hot sun. As the day wore on I was less and less excited to climb up and down the cliff from camp to the lake. It a great site for a day trip to Johnson Falls if you do need to cool down. At night sever storms rolled in and we were offered very little protection. We had one tree snap above our tent, luckily it was caught by other branches. We also had another tent the ended up slightly airborne for a second. The wind came off the lake directly into our tents, it was a dramatic evening. If I was passing through this lake another time I would certainly stay again. The site was one of the best I have even seen.

Nice campsite high up overlooking Little Caribou Lake. You have the lake all to yourself in the mornings and evenings. It’s is a wonderful morning and evening. Unfortunately there was a ton of wind for us during the afternoon. We found a corner of the site sheltered for our tent. Also, the snakes are still around as evident from the number of moulted snakeskins on various rocks.

Totally great site, as others have thoroughly noted. I just wanted to add that there are quite a few garter snakes living here in the rock cliffs. We loved them! One was very cool with orange stripes instead of the normal yellow. There was also a giant spider that (with legs) would have filled my palm. Creepy, but totally cool to see. Love this site. So beautiful.

Camp Notes:
Pros: Being the only campsite on the lake is awesome. The views are beautiful from the camp perched on the point. Nice firegrate area and general room around camp. Good spot for swimming. Caught a couple fish from shore but didn't produce a ton. Latrine is the best one I've used...it's actually perched up on higher ground whereas most seem to be down in a buggy low spot somewhere. Cons: Tent pads are not ideal...we had 3 tents and there were some roots and rocks to contend with underneath all of them. Climbing up and down to/from the water gets a bit old after a while - there is not a great way to do it. Canoe landing is mediocre - the best we found was next to a downed tree to the north and east of the site. Good amount of traffic going through LC each day. Neutral: Got pretty windy for the majority of each day up on the site. Calm in the morning & evening, but good amount of wind through the middle part of the day. This helped cool us down on hot July days, but in mid September or May or something I can imagine it could make for a cold site. Overall it is a great spot and take my cons as just trying to be truthful and provide information - this site is great.

An amazing spot! It is high up on a cliff on the point so you are surrounded by water on 3 sides. The site is all flat and sits on open rock but the tent pad is tucked nicely back in the trees. Some great ledges to stand and fish from. Since it is high on a ledge and open wind does tend to blow through pretty good but the fire pit is well protected by logs and rocks. Caught a couple of Northerns, one from shore standing on the rocks directly in the middle of the point and the other from the canoe along the north shore about 150 yards west of the point.

We stopped here for lunch and a swim, and we all loved it. Great swimming and jumping spots, and very spacious. Plenty of tent pads, but most were rocky. Loooong, uphill hike for the biffy. There's a good spot for landing canoes a bit further up the shore on the east side of the point, connected to the main campsite by a wide trail.

One of my all time favorite sites off the Gunflint. This is where I first brought my daughter Allie, and this is where she fell in love with the BWCA; turtles, otter, moose and fish! I've been amazed at the walleye fishing here on the east end of the lake; nothing huge, but easily caught in shallow water trolling original Rapalas. Also pulled out a 38" northern using the Rap, and have caught more than my share of decent smallies here as well. I try to get this site at least once each summer.

The nicest campsite we have stayed at in 4 trips to the BW. Good landing on east side behind site. Large cooking area with plenty of flat rocks for tables/seats. Nice rock ledge to watch the sunset. Saw a bull moose on the east shore in the evening. A cow moose spent the next morning (3hrs.)in the water in the same spot.

This is a nice site with 3 possible tent pads. I think it sees a lot of use, as we had a canoe to the end of the lake to find firewood. The site looks heavily used with scraps of wood where people have cut/split firewood by the fire grate. We did not see anybody traveling past the site the three days that we were there, but I bet it could be a busy lake with canoes going between Caribou and Pine. It is an easy paddle and portage to get to the trail to see Johnson Falls also.

Gorgeous campsite. Sits up on a cliff, only campsite on the lake. The hike up to the latrine is a bit much - especially if ya really gotta go ;). Tent pad was okay, lots of rocks for sitting on, drying clothes etc. Had great views and nice swimming. Was nice to have the lake to ourselves, but there was a lot of traffic going between Pine and Caribou. Counted eight groups in one day. We changed our plan and stayed on this site instead of pushing forward because we liked it so much.

Nice elevated site in middle of the lake. The tent pads are just OK and there is room for about three tents. There are great views out the west of the site and there is a good landing around the point on the east side of the site. Nice having the lake to yourself.
