Difficulty Rating: Rating 7 (scale of 1 to 10 from easiest to hardest)
Maintenance Rating Rating 4 (scale of 1 to 5 from poorly maintained to well maintained)
Entry Point: 22 - Mudro Lake (restricted--no camping on Horse Lake)
Approximate Date of Visit: 06/15/2022
Portage Notes: Little elevation that will get your blood pumping. The Mudro portages are challenging whether you are heading towards Lower Basswood Falls or Fourtown. However, most others in the area are significantly easier. Thank Goodness!!!!

Portage Notes: Was slightly more difficult than I expected but that could have been just because it was our first portage.

Portage Notes: Easier going from mudro to sandpit than the other way around. Goes up some rolling hills then it gets steep. Very rocky. Almost stepped on one huge rock that turned out to be a snapping turtle. Not the easiest portage, but still manageable.

Approximate Date of Visit: 06/20/2013
Portage Notes: last portage on long multi-day trip; we took this portage the morning after it stormed the night before. Very happy that we were traveling toward Mudro as it would have been much more difficult opposite direction.

Approximate Date of Visit: 08/19/2013
Portage Notes: Moderate climb from Mudro Lake for the first 30 rods or so, followed by a 100ft drop over the next 40 rods towards Sandpit lake and very, very rocky in this section. Did this portage in and out and was the hardest of our trip up to Horse Lake.

Entry Point: 16 - Moose/Portage River (north)
Approximate Date of Visit: 07/13/2011
Portage Notes: Did this on the last day before coming out. It was brutal, steep incline. It would probably have been a little easier if it was earlier in the trip.

Portage Notes: 40 rods up and 40 rods down. it is steepest going SW and there are rock steps. Renamed this portage to heart attack hill. It could be real bad in the rain.
