Portage Notes: Well-maintained, well-traveled portage. As others have said, the landing on the river side is further south on the little arm of the bay. If you see the shield with the upturned tree roots (see the picture), that is NOT the portage (and someone very kindly posted ribbon that said 'NOT A PORTAGE' on it from a nearby tree). The trail is smooth, relatively flat, and easy to travel with great landings on both sides.

Portage Notes: Portage was in good shape, just pretty long. A couple downed trees, only one muddy spot. Location is off on map on the river side but it is easy to find if you just paddle down to the end of the bay. Picture is from the Clear Lake side of the portage.

Portage Notes: The location for the start of this portage on the river end is wrong! It actually starts just a little south at the tip of the tiny finger in this bay. There is a false (old???) landing where this & most maps indicate, along with an accompanying trail into the woods that eventually peters out. The actual trail has some elevation & muddy spots along the way but, overall it's a pretty decent path.

Portage Notes: Good hike with a narrow trail that has very few passing areas. Most of it was dry, but there was still plenty of mud to justify muck boots. There was an area where timbers (some are starting to rot) were placed down to stay above the muck. Elevation was comfortable... Nothing too bad about it, it's just long.

Portage Notes: The BWCAW map says 160 rods but either way, with an 83lb discovery it makes for a long portage. Going into Clear Lake it is a gradual 20' elevation change with no canoe rests. I have not been in the BWCA for a while but at 32 and in good shape my shoulders were sore at the end. The trail is well used but rocky although I had no problem in tennis shoes. The entry points at each end were easy with the Farm Lake side hidden in the little cove.

Portage Notes: From the river it is mostly uphill with a decline at the very end into a so/so put in at Clear Lake.
