Portage Notes: Long, but fairly easy. There's some gentle up and downs and it does wind about a bit, but the portage itself id well maintained and kind of a highway of sorts. Don't let the distance scare you.

Portage Notes: This portage is a long, elevation changing portage. Coming off Canoe Lake or Pine, there are many places to leave your canoe if your plan is to just venture to Johnson Falls. Coming off either lake, you will have a steep long incline. Most of the trail is well maintained with some trees that have falls through the storms. Most people who are not portaging with a Canoe, do well and assist in keeping the trail well maintained. Its not a hard portage to navigate, just hard endurance wise if you are not used to large hill climbs.

Portage Notes: As of May 2022 there were a couple trees down over this portage and one tree growing over one of the boardwalk sections that requires some two-person gymnastics to move a canoe under. Several loose boards on the boardwalk. Even when clear, this is a pretty nasty, steep portage with some slippery spots. Johnson Falls is great, although much of the trail to it was flooded over (May 2022).

Portage Notes: This portage is 232 rods long, trust your map! We marked it with the GPS and it came out to 0.73 miles. Going from Canoe Lake the first couple hundred yards are uphill. It does level off some and there is a nice downhill to Pine Lake. It is a very well maintained trail though. We completed the portage in a little over an hour but were working pretty hard so if you are trying to find a campsite before dark make sure you leave yourself enough time.

Portage Notes: This portage wasn't nearly as hard as I was expecting based on the other comments on here. We breezed through the ups and downs pretty quickly. Obviously it was a little more work going up hill back to canoe, but not bad at all. There are quite a few much more demanding portages in the BWCA. I thought I had another 200 rods when I arrived. Don't skip Johnson Falls just because of the length of this portage.

Portage Notes: Entered this portage from the Canoe Lake side. Didn't think it would take too long. We had already done three lakes and after this portage we were headed to Johnson Falls and hopefully a campsite on Little Caribou. This portage took us almost two hours. Through us way off schedule. It is not 220 rods....it is actually over 400 yards because of the switch backs. It is steep. It is challenging...for those of us who haven't been to Boundary Waters in over 43 years! Allow yourself time. Stay on Pine Lake - if you can after you finish this ...especially in the Fall...when it's after 4:00...and you only have three hours left of light. Thanks to the guys who showed us their map and where we could camp on Pine. They came from Bearskin Lodge! My angels!!

Portage Notes: Not for the faint of heart. It is long but very well maintained. It is downhill from Canoe to Pine and much easier that way.

Portage Notes: Agree with backinthebwca. Extra care needs to be taken when wet, very slippery going downhill. we've done portages a lot longer, none harder.

Portage Notes: I walked this portage on my way to Johnson Falls. My old Fisher map indicates that portage is 232 rods long; not sure it that is right. I saw another map that said it was over 400 rods long. This portage starts with a steep climb and then drops into a boggy area with a boardwalk followed by a gradual climb. There is one other boardwalk on this portage. The last three quarters of the portage is all down hill, which makes for an extremely tough portage if going from Pine to Canoe. I would rate it a 10 difficulty going that way. It took 25 to 30 minutes to reach Pine Lake, which is a beautiful and loooong lake.
