Saturday, June 27, 2009 Woke up to decent weather but still a stiff wind from the North. Our intent was to travel up to Conmee and camp/fish there but the wind significantly slowed our travel and we decided to cut our trip and go across Brent since I had camped/fished there before and found it great. We had lunch at a terrific site on Elk. (the other guy mentioned that he could just camp there for the week and be perfectly happy. I tended to agree with him). After a couple of character building portages we struggled against the wind across Brent and found a great campsite on the eastern end somewhat protected on an island peninsula with great coves on either side. Most of us were too tired to fish but it was still warm enough to take a bath/swim so we took advantage of that after setting up camp. (This would be the only opportunity for this as well). Later that evening my son and I ventured out by ourselves throwing topwater lures for smallmouth. In one of the most perfect evenings I have experienced in Quetico we caught and released together over 20 fish mostly in the 1-3 lb range. To sit there and watch my son’s excitement and disbelief was all I needed to make my trip. Dinner was spaghetti with half the sauce since I spilled it while cooking. We used more hot sauce instead. (more weight gone, yeah!)
