Day 6 of 10
Saturday, July 03, 2010 Got to Curtain Falls in short order, portaged, and headed to Rebecca Falls for a little tourism. We had wanted to layover on the Sunday Bay island site and day trip into Argo but had lost the day earlier. Found a PFD at Rebecca Falls island and a broken paddle on Sunday Bay. Our trash collection was growing. Headed to Bottle Lake. My son didn’t believed I had navigated correctly - couldn’t see passage through rocks at end of Bottle - so lost nearly an hour until I insisted we look and low and behold we could paddle through. Like Mark Twain said: “When I was 16 my father was the stupidest man I knew. When I turned 21, I was amazed at how much he had learned in just 5 years.” My son is 17.

Portaged. Learned that tow boats come this far on LLC and watched a couple of groups - no doubt violating 9 person limit - being picked up. A little rough water across this tip of LLC and turned corner to Fish Stake Narrows for a camp site. This was our re-entry to BWCAW from Quetico a day earlier than planned. My son wanted deviled eggs so why not - 5 of last 6 - wrapped in pre-cooked bacon. Nice dinner.

By the way, the medium eggs from Zups in cardboard cartons, wrapped in bubble wrap, and treated with just a little TLC, did great. This camp site was a little over-improved, and we removed a number of the nylon rope and plastic items, leaving the hand carved spoons, ladles, and other implements. We also left the “open” and “in use” sign on trail to pit toilet.
