Misting rain as we woke up. Saw a mother duck and five ducklings while we were eating breakfast. Left camp 8 A. M.

Arrived at Campbell’s Cabins 9:30 and took a 45 minute rest stop. Sent cards and an Indian papoose to Mary Helen. Entered Namakan River at 10:45 A. M.—misting rain. Lunch at Snake Falls. Long portage and rest stop. Cloudy and cool.

Left Snake Falls at 1:20; sun coming out. Tried several places to portage rapids between Snake and Myrtle Falls and Neil had to clear off portage around rapids left of Myrtle Falls. (found out later we should have run the ones on the right side.)

Came around Myrtle Island and saw a blue heron and a group of fishermen. Camped at Myrtle Falls 3:45 P. M. Gorgeous campsite. Did laundry. After supper a camp counselor with a party of 8 girls from Camp Northland came into our camp to ask directions.

[It was about this time that I began to realize that perhaps this could be fun after all. The campsite at Myrtle Falls was so lovely. Our tent was close to the falls, so we could hear the sound of the water all night, and that was a new experience for me. I sat on the shore by the falls and prayed to God for a brown-eyed baby boy with dark hair to go with our blue-eyed blonde baby girl.]
