I slept in till 7 this morning. Went out and fixed some coffee and had some me time. Char got up around 8 and we had our breakfast of Malt-O-Meal then had our devotional. Saw the first people come by our campsite this morning. A couple of canoes with couples who couldn't read a map. They asked if the portage was down this way. I steered them to the right way. Went out in the canoe and took one last leisurely paddle around Splash Lake. Got out on shore and investigated a few times. I'm glad Mother Nature changed our plans and had us stay on Splash Lake. The camp site was nice, not used much, it was quiet, saw no one around us for nearly 4 days, had some nice critters come through camp, didn't have to battle big waves or wind. Sun came out, first nice weather all week and we're having to leave.

Broke camp and headed back to portage for our 2 PM tow back. We waited, and waited, until about 4, no tow boat. Decision time again. Should we start paddling back to the EP or stay. We had no map for Moose Lake. I didn't remember how we got here as it was cold, windy, and foggy when we towed on Monday. I also didn't know how far or long it would take to paddle back. The last thing I wanted was to get caught out on the lake as darkness takes over. Without a map, I couldn't really see where the campsites were. We decide to just go for it and start paddling. Luckily the lake was pretty calm. There's a lot of motor boat activity on Moose so we would watch where they went and followed them. We paddled hard for about 3 hours straight, getting back to the boat ramp. Not knowing how far it was, I was prepared for a 4-6 hour paddle. We went into the resort there, I'm not sure which it was, and told them our story. Unfortunately our car was in the tow operator's lot, locked, and he has the keys. He was very nice and called the tow people and told them about us, then gave us some fresh hot fried walleye he had just cooked. It was the best walleye I had every eaten! The tow people had gotten involved in a work project and forgot to pick us up, but did come down to the ramp quickly. Told us to sit while they loaded everything into the car for us. Gave us our money back for the return trip and our next tow would be on the house.

Charlene and I had a great time. We got started on the next phases of our lives and we bonded closer together. After 33 years of marriage, we're still dating!
