Day 2: Noone was in a hurry to get up as Sunday broke gray and windy, but with temps in the 60’s. A dozen fresh eggs and bacon got the day going right. This was to be a fishing and exploring day, with no move until Monday, so the canoes split up to find the hot spots. The falls again provided action but not size, and on the troll back westward, Brett hooked up with the first laker of the trip. A spot on the west end of the lake gave us a decent but spotty walleye bite, and we came upon the camp of the two gentlemen from the day before.

Clouds and a steady east wind had been the order of the day, and we were tired from fighting it by dinnertime. New York Strips with mashed potatoes were on the menu, and we could tell the weather was about to turn for the better as a gorgeous sunset approached.

We liked Mexican Hat Lake and our camp just fine, but looked forward to moving the next morning.
