Thursday, June 16, 2011 Day 5______ Pan Lake- Kawishwi River. It was very hard to get up this morning because I was very tired. Brad was up at 8 and I was up at like 8:30. We were packed up and heading out at 9:45. We’ve heard that the Kawishwi River is always one of the best spots in the Boundary waters to fish so we wanted to try it again. We were going to go to the West more though, towards Alice lake. We wanted the campsite just North of Malberg but the campsite was terrible and it didn’t look like that great of a fishing spot but what do we know. So, we decided to move on and settled with the North campsite on the island on the Kawish. It was an awesome campsite and had some decent slip bobber fishing. We ended up catching 5 walleye, 9 smallies, and 6 Norherns in an afternoon into evening fishing kind of nonchalantly. We jigged and cast rapalas around the whole island but only caught 2 Smallmouth and we had no luck trolling blue rapalas at night either. (The whole trip was weird in that way. All the usual ways and areas we catch fish were not producing and I don’t know why. I don’t know if it was all just the screwey weather or what but the fishing was mediocre at best all week. We found some here and there but it was so hit and miss.) I caught 2 more walleyes on slip bobbers as we watched a beautiful sunset and cooked up our fish fry and stuffing. We had a ton and I was stuffed to the brim. We had some orange tea and relaxed by the fire a bit and then went to bed around 11:00.
