Slept late today got up at 9:00 a.m; looked for Jody who was no wear to be found. I knew he was up talking to his hopefully soon to be wife at the store. I walked up to find him with sad eyes. I knew that the truth came out. She was married!!! Oh well, I told him that there are other fish in the sea. I gave him a shiny Toonie and told him it will be o.k. We decide to drive to our Beaverhouse entry point today just to check it out. The turnoff to Beaverhouse was not too far out of Atikokan, maybe a half hour or so. We hit the gravel road for the scenic drive to our put in area. What an adventurous drive it was. The gravel road gets narrower and narrower the farther you go. Toward the end, it’s barely wide enough for my truck. I love it. There were about 6 cars in the parking area-- I thought there would be more this time of the year. As we approached the entry trail down to the lake we met a group of 4 men that were coming out after a 6 day adventure into Quetico Lake. They looked exhausted, and I think they were glad to see other people. We chatted for quite a while. They said fishing was good and bugs were bad. I remembered that I had a cooler in my truck that contained iced down pop and water. I excused myself from the group and went and retrieved the cooler. You should have seen their eyes light up when I opened it up and told them to help themselves. They looked at me like I had given them a million dollars. It was fun to see how much they appreciated their first cold drink in a week. We chatted some more and went on our way. We decided to go to Fort Francis after leaving Beaverhouse. We looked around for a while, and had a piece of pie. Best pie I’ve ever had! We drove back to Atikokan; we still had some last minute packing to do before our real adventure begins tomorrow.
