Day Two: Today we were going to visit the International Wolf Center in Ely. It would probably take most of the day.

There is so much to do at the Wolf Center. There are animal displays (stuffed) at the entrance,

And there are films in the theatre.

Sometimes the wolves are active outside the window, and sometimes they are not in evidence or they are sleeping (so they don’t look too interesting.)

That’s when a kid can go in the “Cub’s Den” and play. It has a variety of activities, such as a pretend den that is dark and has recorded wolf pup sounds,

and a game to connect the food chain elements.

It also has lots of information, and some things to draw and color.

We went to an informational lecture in the observation room, and got to see some interesting things. Some we could even touch:

And then the wolves began waking up so they were more fun to watch.

Soon it was lunchtime. We left the Wolf Center and went to the Ely Steak House. Robert isn’t too adventuresome about trying new foods, but he tried “Walleye Fingers” and thought they were pretty good!

While we were waiting for our entrees to arrive he played his own special brand of cue-less pool in the lounge.

Then we were back at the Wolf Center in a section called “Wolf and Human”

Can you howl like a wolf?

We enjoyed watching the wolves in the afternoon when they were more active.

And soon it was time to leave. We stopped to look at the statues near the parking lot:

And of course no boy can resist jumping off a rock!

Back at the cabin we decided that we wanted to cook our brats over the fire for our supper. Grandpa and Robert went over to the clear-cut land on Hanson Lake Road to gather up some firewood. The bugs were bad, so Robert tried out his new head net. They came back with a good pile of wood, and Grandpa cut it up, while Robert helped him stack it under the porch.

Then it rained so we had spaghetti and meatballs for our supper. That’s called “Plan B”.

It cleared off after supper, and we spent some time down on the dock. Grandma took reflection pictures and Grandpa and Robert tried a little unsuccessful fishing.

Robert liked playing in the water with sticks, too.
