Day 9 of 10
Saturday, June 08, 2013When I got up the next morning there were moose tracks on the beach near our tent. Cow and calf. We were clueless. We had hung our wet clothes on the bushes the night before but on course that did no good. My boots were wet inside but I had my keens and this was the last day so I wore those. I had worn them for portaging on prior trips but tried the boots on this trip. I prefer the boots except for the inevitable wetting. Pick your own poison. Sam and Tim were packed first and headed out. What harm could that do since we were just going across the lake to the Stanton Bay EP? Well, they waited for us by trolling around the area. Don and I trolled as well, picking up a couple of fat lakers on the way. Our pick up was schedule for 1:00PM and Tim dropped our first pack in the parking area as the shuttle arrived. We didn’t waste a second of our time in Quetico by hanging around waiting for the shuttle. Once back at Camp Quetico we transferred our gear, got showered and hit the road. We had decided to enter the US at Ft. Francis and go back to Michigan via the UP. The car was a bit more quiet on the way home. We stopped about 1:00AM in Marquette.
