The next morning started with a 720mtr portage partly through a swamp. This was what the Canadian gentlemen had warned us about and Adam told us to scout it to find a safe path. We did scout it but I still went up to my crutch in the mud while carrying the canoe. All good fun though,It was not as hard as we expected, or maybe we were getting good at this portaging business? By this stage in the trip we had been pushing really hard to make up time we had lost. There was going to be a boat waiting for us at Prairie Portage at 10.00am Friday morning. If we missed that it was possible we might miss our flights as well. Failure would be a very expensive option. I think this is Dell Lake.
Or the start of North Bay
Looking back at Burke Lake, this was a long tiring slog and there was only a slight headwind. I was starting to go off the big lakes.

Talking of big lakes this is the massive Bayley Bay of Basswood Lake. The last lake on our last full day. We were very tired at this stage so we camped early for a change at about 2.00pm on Sunday Island for our last night which only left a couple of miles to reach our tow boat in the morning.
I told you it was big. Views from Sunday Island.
Last camp
Tired.
Final fire.
And then it was all over. Our tow with Burt.
Tim and Alycia from Piragis picking us up at Moose Lake for the drive back to Ely , and a shower!

Thats not Golum its me.
Well thats enough for tonight. I will round off by saying it was a fantastic experience. It was miles better than I hope it would be and a lot harder physicaly. Piragis Outfitters Just give them a ring ask for Adam and do exactly what he suggests. With hindsight every thing Adam tried to advise us about rang true by the and of trip. All the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. They are highly recommended!! If you book up a trip with them mention my name (Woody) and I might get a discount if ( when) I go again. Its only money and life is short. Go on you know you want to. So final thoughts. It was a bit expensive but if I had saved £10 every week I had been dreaming about doing a trip like this I could have paid for two or more dream trips. So stop dreaming start saving and have the experience of a lifetime. Call Adam at Piragis today, you won't regret it!
