Day 3: McDougall, Eag, Camel

The rain stopped during the night, but the morning was again calm and gray as we broke camp. It was nice to have the layover day, but we need to get moving if we want to hit all of our intended target lakes on this trip.

As we portage into McDougall again, right on cue the rain starts, and we’ve seen this movie before! We can’t resist the chance to troll up a few more trout before we turn southward towards the portage. I’m sure that McDougall is a very pretty lake, but I’ll have to see it in the sunlight on another trip! The portage starts in a marsh, which is very full now from the rain of the last two days. It’s a buggy mess, and we’re filthy as we shove off into the unnamed lake north of Eag. We take the western exit portage out of Eag, and then it’s into a (pretty full) creek to get to Camel. The campsite (ZC) on the south shore as you enter Camel is open, so we set up shop as it’s actually starting to clear up! The wind stops, and it’s glass calm when we get out to fish. We see the sun for the first time since Saturday! [URL=http://s75.photobucket.com/user/MadBirdman/media/Quetico%202016%20Veron/SunsOuton%20Camel_zps6jaueegl.jpg.html]

Fishing our way through the “hump” of Camel Lake, we are picking up a few walleyes, but nothing steady. They seem to be scattered after the unsettled weather. It’s pizza tonight, one of our favorites, so we use the windscreen from my MSR stove to help with the “oven”.
