Quetico 2016: Pickeral, Chatterton, McDougall, Camel, Veron, Fred
by Mad Birdman
The last morning, a thick fog greets us as we exit the site. As usual, things were quiet in camp as we all contemplate re-entry into our routines. We were glad to have made progress into Pickeral, since the going was a bit tough as our visual landmarks were gone. Was glad to have the GPS to sail by instruments back into Stanton. Just came to the top of the portage, 10 minutes early, and there was Doug! Was glad to see him, and we loaded up for the drive home, after showering at the French Lake campground. I would highly recommend the showers there! The swelling on my lip was down to a manageable level, and in the end it just left us with another interesting story. As we re-enter, we hear that the Cavaliers somehow dug out of their deficit, and we got to watch Game 7 once we were home. Funny how we had just assumed that the series was over!
Anyway, the only constant is change, right? Trying a new route, dealing with a three-man boat, and dealing with the roller coaster of weather while enjoying our favorite week of the year are the things that make it all worthwhile, don't you think?
