Saturday, July 29, 2017 Since we were close to Kawnipi decided to get up early and go below Canyon Falls and fish the eddies before heading to Kawnipi. The fishing was great caught eyes, smallies, and slimers. Finally decided to head to McKenzie Bay and fish on the way. By the way the last portage was actuly about 30 rods like the map shows, so we would have had no problem getting to Kawnipi and finding a camp site. We kept catching fish and had to stop fishing or we would have never got to McKenzie Bay. What a dilemma! It is a long way from Canyon Falls to McKenzie Bay but the weather was perfect, warm but not hot and the water was calm, made for a perfect paddle. But the whole way I kept thinking if the wind comes up for a couple of days we won't get back to our pick up in time. Got the campsite on the big island in McKEnzie Bay and it was awesome, one of the best sites I've ever had in either the Q or the bdub. It was a 5 and I don't give 5s willy nilly. I was tired out so stayed at camp and fished off of shore not catching anything while the other two took out the boat. They came back with eyes but Foodnazi was ticked because she didn't catch any.
