High 60s, calmer

Tuesday dawned sunny and calm. A perfect morning for our desired Smallmouth pursuit for the day. We had some breakfast and packed up camp for a travel and fishing day. We said goodbye to our guests as they were going to stay for another day and headed out. We fished our way towards our next campsite a couple lakes away. We fished decently hard and probably caught around 50 smallies in 3- 4 hours of fishing. I was mostly using flukes and wacky rigs. Others were caught on spinners and crankbaits. The smallmouth were in shallow and some were still on beds even which I had never seen before in the Boundary Waters. I would have loved to stay on that lake and keep fishing all day but my companions wanted to keep moving and find a campsite so I obliged.

We ended up traveling much further out then planned as many campsites were occupied but we found an okay one. The temperature was now reaching in to the 70s and seemed hot from what we were used to. We set up camp then relaxed around camp for the afternoon. We also did a little hiking and exploring of the area. It ended up being a perfect night for fishing but it was a new lake for me so wasn’t sure what to try. In hind sight I should have just trolled to try to catch and find fish at different depths because I didn’t know much about the lake. We tried for around an hour jigging spoons for trout with no luck so we headed back to camp. I would have kept fishing and tried different things but none of my trip partners are that in to fishing. So, we decided to play some cards and relax around camp for our last evening.
