Day 17 of 28
Sunday, July 08, 2018 - All is well again
Fortunately after sleeping for a good 20 hours or so, I felt great in the morning….. and hungry! The boys saved me my ration of crackers and tuna from yesterday’s lunch which made for a fine breakfast.
After eight days of camping in the mud, our trusty MSR Dragonfly started acting up. I figured “no problem”, I’ve got the repair kit, a Gerber multi-tool, and an engineering degree; this thing will be back in action in no time. Unfortunately the fuel jet was frozen in place and would not come out. I actually deformed the head of my Gerber tool screwdriver trying unsuccessfully to remove the fuel jet. We were lucky that the stove still worked well enough to get our water boiling, it just took a long time and used too much fuel. We were able to use it the rest of the week, but we opted to skip any more fish dinners as they use a lot of fuel.
The day was pretty much overcast and light 55F rain all day, but the fishing remained just as hot as ever.
We went back to fishing our trusty spots and ended up with 27 pike over 10 lbs for the day. At this point, we were starting to see some of the same pike that we had caught previously. While “infinite bay” did turn out to not be unlimited pike, we ended up catching over 100 pike in excess of 10 lbs from this very small area.
