Up at daybreak yet again, with another golden sunrise. Sadly, the stunning sunrise was the best weather of the day. It had rained lightly overnight and the clouds were threatening to settle in. Today was another layover day, so there was time for a leisurely breakfast of hashbrowns, bacon, and eggs. About half way through cooking breakfast, we saw the rain line headed our way. A quick dash under the tarp and the rest of breakfast was cooked on top of the blue barrel. This time, it wasn’t just a quick or light passing shower. It rained solidly and fairly heavily for 2-3 hours before slowing to a drizzle We spent our time watching the rain and trying to prevent a river from running through our gear pile. At this point, we were very glad we had chosen the higher tent site. The other one we’d been eyeing and turned into a puddle during the downpour.

In the afternoon, the drizzle finally stopped. However the weather still didn’t cooperate as we kept getting hit with waves of heavy mist for the rest of the day and it remained in the mid 50s. We joked that we spent much of the day moving the camp chairs from the water’s edge to under the tarp and back. There were a couple eagles that circled the area, a peregrine falcon, and a trio of little ducks that spent hours feeding in front of our site. Our original plan for today was to cruise around Horseshoe and Vista, but neither of us felt like going out in the drizzle. No sunset or stargazing again tonight, so we retired to the tent. Only saw one canoe go by all day late in the afternoon.
