Day 17

Layover day--and a Nor'Easter!

It started raining at 1:50 AM, and was raining hard when we woke up about 7. 50 degrees in the tent, and we were dry, comfy, and hungry! We breakfasted "indoors" on Kudos and pepperoni.

This was a rain-bound day, listening to the wind howl and wondering how long it could last. Our next crossing was that of our largest lake (Brule), and really demanded quiet waters. The wind and rain came steadily out of the east or northeast all day, while we played Gin Rummy and waited it out. At lunchtime we made a fire and had our usual hot breakfast, which helped the comfort level a lot.

We spent the afternoon in the tent also, bundled up to keep warm, reading and sleeping. This gets old after awhile! Cooked our supper very carefully in the tent on the propane stove--of course that really means we just boiled water! Played some more cards and settled in for sleep. We really hope to get on the way tomorrow. We are rested to the MAX!
