Wednesday, August 24, 2022 Day 3 Layover day! We wake to off and on rain and enjoy some oatmeal (with bonus blueberries) under the tarp. Eric is gun-ho to go fishing so he and I suit up with our raingear and head out. We troll around the island and manage to catch a good number of smallies. We kept a few eater size ones which become fish tacos for lunch. The rain continued and we spend some quality time under the tent exchanging stories. We also reviewed the map to make a decision between heading West towards Ottertail or south to Red Rock. We know we want to end up on Seagull on Saturday night, which gives us 3 travel days whichever way we go. After some discussion, it is decided that while the longer route is still possible it does not allow for any margin of error. Instead, we will head down to Red Rock and hope to reach Alpine the next evening.
Later in the afternoon Eric took Gavin out and had a blast catching a bunch of smallies, a couple of which ended up as a nice addition to our dinner!
Overall it was a great day and everyone agreed that the layover was a great idea, even if it happened earlier in our trip as was planned. Highlight was watching the Eagles take the fish scraps we had left on the nearby point in front of camp.
