It rained, but not more than .05 of an inch. Drop in the bucket. We woke early and broke camp. Silver/Four Falls gave us one last glance as the rapids spilled against a rock face and the portage lay behind. The current in the Sag narrows going into Cache Bay was steady but nothing like what we had faced NW of Kawnipi. We made the ranger station right when it opened. Winds are at 9 knots and gusting to 18. Rollers and white caps should make big Sag interesting. Stacy was glad for the info on the Maligne NW of Kawnipi, as they do not get much info from that area of the park. We were rewarded with two mugs of hot cocoa. We found out Janice passed away from cancer a couple years ago - such a wonderful woman. It was she that told us about two warring factions of Anishanaabe that had massacred an entire clan and threw their bodies - men, women, and children - off the cliffs through the Cache narrows.

We were cleared for a noon pickup from Hook Island, and the rollers in Sag were manageable. We were fine with the NNE headwind, which kept us from having to zig zag or follow the shore to avoid broadside. Got to Hook and made coffee as we awaited the tow to VCO.

Looking forward to hot wings and a greasy burger at Trail Center.

Thanks for the memories, Quetico. The Maligne (def. evil in nature or effect, malevolent) lived up to its name.

Route: Saganagons; Four/Silver Falls; Cache Bay; Saganaga; Hook Island
