Day 8 of 8
Tuesday, June 27, 2023
* Up a little after 6:00. We have about three hours of travel and a tow pickup at Hook Island at noon. Didn’t set up the tarp and I broke down rods and reels last night; they’re lashed to the canoe already.
* As we were sitting here on this big rock on a beautiful morning having breakfast, we thought it was remarkable that nobody has passed by since our arrival yesterday. We’re sitting in the narrows, at the campsite closest to a portage from an entry. One portage to reach this point and we’ve seen nobody. In the BWCA we probably would have seen five groups.
* Left camp about 8:35. Arrived at ranger station to provide news from the north woods at 10:15.
* My wife saw the book "Her Island" by Joe Frederich in the ranger station. It's the biography of Janis, longtime ranger of this station that many of us have met. Need to buy and read that one.
* Arrived at Hook Island at 11:20. Our tow back to VCO arrived at 12:05. We chatted with the VCO owner when we arrived back at the outfitter, took showers, and hit the road, arriving back in Duluth in time for dinner with my in-laws.
