We got up a little late for us on this trip (8am) and made a big breakfast. We had been getting up not long after we were woken up by the birds and squirrels at about 4:30, so this was nice. We cleaned up a few meals worth of dishes and organized our stuff. We went out in the early afternoon to fish. We went over to a wall on the other side of the bay. We got some bites, and 1 small walleye, but decided it was too small to keep. We didn’t get any up to the boat. We started back across the bay and had a bunch of biting flies going for our exposed ankles since we only had on water shoes. I forgot we used to bring a flyswatter along to deal with them. I tied my bandanna around one ankle and my hat around the other that seemed to work. I caught a decent sized pike on the trip back to the campsite but we’d already discussed having peach crumble for dinner and decided we didn’t feel like messing with fish since it was getting late. Also, while I will eat a northern, it’s not my favorite fish to eat or deal with.
We got back and started the peach crumble. It has to cook about 30 minutes, so we boiled water and took bucket baths in the wash bucket. I went up to the tent to change and start packing up. The mosquitoes appeared and he had forgotten to bring over the Thermacell or his dry shoes so he could go get it, so his bath was not very pleasant. We had the dessert and hot drinks and packed up the bear bags and as much gear as we could after dark for an early departure the next day.
