Day 1 of 6
Sunday, June 16, 2024 Up early for the :45 drive to Anderson's in Crane Lake. Arrive 6:00 AM to Mark's awesome Bagel sandwich and coffee. Prep takes about :45 minutes and its off to load the boat for the trip to Lac LaCroix. Trip into LaCroix is non-eventful. The mechanical portages are interesting and it is about a 1:45 trip to Bottle Portage. As we got closer to Bottle Mark notices a 5 start camp site is open directly across from Warrior Hill. It was not our target site but is hard to pass up knowing we will only have to Paddle about :20 to the site. Not knowing what else is open we go for it. Mark drops us off on an island directly in front of Warrior Hill and off we go. Site is nice, on an island and we are fully set up within another hour. Site even has some wood waiting for us. After a quick scrounge for more wood I decide to toss a few lures and within minutes have a small pike. Consider our past trips, and our lack of fish this seems like a good omen. Dinner, a few drinks and its time for bed. No stars tonight-cloudy.
