Day 7 of 11
Monday, August 26, 2024 Another moving day. We get all packed up and out early as the wind is still blowing. Not heavy as the day before in the afternoon. But it’s breezy and promising to pick up. We beat it across the lake heading a little south to hit the portage to Silence Lake. There are several bays and we miss the portage bay by one too many. (Isn’t that how it always goes?Unless you’re REALLY lost). We see a group coming across the short portage, you can literally see Silence Lake as you unload the canoe, so wait for them to clear. Did I mention that we haven’t had a people free day yet? WAY busier than our trip up the Man Chain. They were on their way from Kahshahpiwi and asked us confirm this was Agnes. We confirmed and they whipped out the fishing poles. They were on a two week trip and apparently fish was a major part of their food supply. One guy muttered about a 43” pike he caught at K lake. Good luck guys and gal. We continued on to Silence and had the whole South end to ourselves. Don’t know if there was anyone on the North end but we didn’t see nor hear nobody .the rest of the day. The wind died down and all was very pleasant. So we paddled around and checked out the campsites. The first one on the West Point was kinda nice but not really layed out well. 1Cm. There’s lots of room if you have a lot of people. Great rocks and fire pit back in some trees. But hammock sites were not great and there wasn’t much shade. We hop back into the canoe and continue our leisurely paddle around the lake. Did I also mention that we’re not in a hurry on this trip? We circle around the island and keep our eyes peeled. We’ve had very good luck with island sites in the past. We were not disappointed when we spotted and checked out site 1CM. It had a great landing on the east side and a great view kitchen on the west. We scoped out our hammock sites and settled in. It was mid afternoon so we went out to try som fishing. Without the fish finder, we floated and jigged out in the middle but didn’t have any luck. Then we realized that the wind was pushing us around pretty well and we were doing a slow troll while jigging. Mart paddled us round the north end of the island and I cast a lure out to see if anything was interested. Caught a several small bass but that’s all. So we headed back to the island, cooked up our last set of steaks and had a great dinner. Off to bed for a busy day tomorrow.
