Covid wont stop us this time... Quetico 2024

I woke up at about 4:30 in time to see a beautiful sunrise, swans swimming in the distance, and to hear the sound of serenading loons. Another stunning morning in the northwoods. We of course got in the canoes for a morning fishing session and had our usual success on Kawnipi catching quality bass and walleye. It is such a unique fishery, where it seems you can catch fish any time of day, at any temperature and any weather conditions. At least that is our experience with the lake.
We return to camp and decide to make another move today and head towards McVicar Bay to see new sights. It ends up being only about a 2.5 mile paddle and we are in no particular hurry, therefore we troll our deep diving taildancers picking up multiple walleye just for fun. The water is calm, the skies clear and the temperature just about perfect. We enter the mouth of McVicar Bay and find a lovely unmarked site that we check out and decide its another 4* that we will call home for the night. Being on such a massive lake that you can explore without portaging is something I personally really enjoy. The site has plenty of open space, nice hammock hanging trees, a nice cooking area and a rock outcropping for viewing the lake.
After setting up camp and lounging around for a bit, we decide to have an early dinner and then go chase some fish. My Mother had dehydrated some different types of meals for us this year, and this one she called Thanksgiving dinner. It was absolutely delicious. If anyone wants the recipe, send me a message and Ill try and get it for you. It got rave reviews from all four of us. By 6 pm, we were back on the water wetting out lines but not finding too much success. We were fishing in fishy looking areas that usually produce but striking out more often than not. It was still wonderfully peaceful and serene. We had only seen one other canoe all day, while they were circling our island looking for a campsite. Another fantastic day came to an end with a nice sunset and the call of loons.
