EP 37 to Sagus and Back
by MillerWi

Trip Type: Paddling Canoe
Entry Date: 06/09/2026
Entry & Exit Point: Kawishiwi Lake (EP 37)
Number of Days: 4
Group Size: 2
Trip Introduction:
Goal was to get to Sagus and back in 4 nights, see if the walleye hype was real and do a trip that wasn't a basecamp trip. Disclaimer: we traveled fast, partially due to favorable winds most of the trip (we aren't great paddlers). We also single portaged, my wife is a portage machine and I'm just stubborn enough to try and keep up.
Day 1 of 4
Tuesday, June 09, 2026 10:12-Departed EP37, arrived at Malberg site 1056 in under 4 hrs for a lunch break. 2:08-Left Malberg site, paddled East to skip portage 562, then back down to River Lake. Settled on Beaver Lake site 1967 at 5:20 Travel time: 7hrs, 8 min. Est. miles paddled: 14.6 Portages: 12 @ est. 609 rods Notes: Loved both sites visited, caught smallies from our site on Beaver Lake, gentle tail wind most of the day, portages mostly well maintained and manageable. Bugs were incredibly mild.
