Day 13 of 15
Monday, June 23, 2025 The morning is overcast, with a little mist falling. It's another windy day, and it is noon before I am able to get on the water. I fight the gusts and the wind, and I realize that I need to get off the water. When you're trout fishing, the wind is your enemy. Getting to deep water usually means being exposed out in the middle of the lake. It's a price you pay for catching lake trout. Being windbound in the Boundary Waters is fairly common, especially on the larger lakes. There's a temptation to push through or to ignore the signs of potential danger because you feel you need to maintain a schedule. Stay put and stay safe. It can be frustrating, but I'd rather be dry and at my campsite than capsized and struggling to retrieve packs and get to shore.
