Tuesday, August 25, 2026 Of course there has to be at least one day of bad weather, and for us, this was it. Two of us wanted to get some fishing done in the morning so we were up around sunrise to set off in the canoe. No bites over roughly 2.5 hours of fishing before the rain rolled in and we had to high tail it back to camp. I did manage to snag the tiniest bass I’ve ever laid my eyes on so technically not skunked today. Throughout the morning rain came and went, but nothing too severe. In the early afternoon the clouds parted briefly and provided a chance to lay on the beach and do a little more swimming. Even our bad weather day turned out to be pretty alright. Right around dinner time is when the storm clouds started rolling in. We were able to take shelter under a tarp we hung in the trees and made dinner and played cards, always managing to find ways to enjoy ourselves. One of us with a Garmin In-reach kept getting messages from his wife about how bad the storm looked on the radar. Must have just missed us because all we got was a good bit of rain. Just before sunset is when the clouds broke again and we were able to walk down a trail to get a good view of a beautiful sunset. Had just enough time to grab my rod and do some shore fishing, catching another small-mouth. I’ve not yet done as much fishing as I’d hoped but I’m sure that’ll change. Called it an early night thankfully because right as I lied down, it started to downpour. With the knowledge that I had everything packed up under my rainfly, the rain was kind of a blessing to make for perfect white noise to sleep to.
