Saturday, June 16, 2007 Burke Lake – Prairie Portage It was another beautiful day with a nice breeze blowing straight at Prairie Portage only five miles away. We took our time getting up and with four hours to get there, we relaxed and just drifted back. Dairy Queen, hamburgers, ice cold beer and homemade pizza at the Chocolate Moose, was the topic. The last portage, nick named “the yellow brick road” could be spotted ½ mile away and was like walking on a city sidewalk in comparison to the others. It was a good feeling to be back on Bayley Bay knowing we had just completed a 70 mile loop, and without seeing the same place twice.
Despite the few minor setbacks nature threw at us and the one imaginary one, there is no other way I would have wanted to spend a week. It will be remembered for a long time to come. Over dinner the supplies we brought with us but didn’t use were already being scrutinized, we both knew we would be back. The planning for next year had already been set into motion.
