Up to a little colder morning but again sunny and blue skies. Again we got the coffee going, had some breakfast and went in search of some trout. With hopes to get into some sizable fish so we had more stories to tell other than our 3 hour hike in.. We tried out a few new spots and just kept moving around the lake. Finally I get a hard tap on my lightweight rod and the drag starts screaming... I'm like FINALLY, Fish ON and it BIG! Shon comes running over to join in on the first real action of the trip. I get it to the hole multiple times and can't get it turned up the 6 inch hole. Finally I get it turned and it shoots up to the top of the hole and the small hook I was using flies out of it's mouth as Shon was going to grab it and falls back down the hole as Shon goes up to his armpit after it...and it's gone. We're like, did that seriously just happen? That thing was a pig as Shon Dries off his now soaking wet arm and we sat there in awe. Back to our jigging and not 5 minutes later Shon say he's got one...I run over to get in on his action and it's another big one. More drag screaming and trying to get it turned up the hole and once it turns it shoots up and there goes the hook (as it did mine) and down the hole this big splake goes..Now I dive in after it up to my elbow and pinch it to the side of the hole and come out with soaking arm and nice 20 inch splake! It's a beauty. Again, believing we just about lost another one as we get some pictures and we're back to fishing. Then it's my turn again, pretty much carbon copy of the last two incidences that just happened all the way to the final off at the hole straightening out my hook and Shon diving in after it but this time coming out with a beautiful colored 22 inch beauty. Now we've got some good fish stories to tell in addition to our 3 hour trek in, in total darkness. With the help of the sun and good synthetics our arms dried out and we were back to camp as the action died down for the day. Some entertainment from a local Whiskey Jack giving us some photo ops and again a nice fire and hot totties and reliving our fish stories of the day, we cashed it in and retreated to our sleeping bags for a good night sleep.
