Back late last night from 10 days in Quetico (the classic route: Basswood River, Robinson, McIntyre, Brent, Suzanette). We got in Memorial Day, just ahead of 4 days of gale-force winds--not great for canoeing or fishing but we had the park pretty much to ourselves. Highlights included sharing Moose Bay with a pair of trumpeter swans, orchids blooming in such profusion you had to be careful where you stepped, fresh lake trout sautéed in butter & lemon and fish tacos created with smallmouth bass filets fried in a tempura batter and served with lime/cilantro salsa. Shot a lot of medium format film (forgot to bring the extra batteries for the digital cameras--doh!).

The fishing was picking up when we were coming out after last week's heat wave--the bigger lakes, McIntyre, Brent and Suzanette were still very cold--high 40's, low 50's water temps. Couldn't buy a walleye anywhere although we talked to a group who nailed them on Crooked. Had fun with largemouth on smaller lakes when weather/wind permitted top-water lures. Even slow for lake trout--a new weather system rolled through every other day and there was lots of pollen on the water also.

Uh oh...pressure's on!"
I did put a smily face. Now I'll probably get skunked for writing that....

Now that would be funny and sad at the same time.
