My group has gone on 7-10 day trips each of the last four years (three times to BWCA and one to Woodland Caribou), however this year we were only able to work out a 4 night trip (with the first being a motel hopefully near our entry point). The goal is laker fishing – with a chance a 30+ inch fish. With only three nights in the park, we want to get to a lake quick, set up camp, and fish. Original thoughts are Quetico, Cirrus, or Pickerel, however we are open to suggestions! We have all are own gear, but could use an outfitter if it makes sense for permits, shuttle, etc…
Walter, I only know Pickeral and consider it very productive. Productive means I caught lakers and I am a poor fisherman. I believe all the lakes you mentioned have lakers and nice campsites. Beaverhouse entry will allow you to park at he EP and therefore have control over your coming and going. You can pick up your permit at Beaverhouse which involves some paddling or get it in Atikoken.
Walter, there are a couple of laker holes in western Quetico Lake and Cirrus Lake that you could be fishing on day one. Quetico: west of Eden Island in that big bay; Cirrus: in the southern arm near the "preferred" campsite -- the one on the point north of the 330m. portage to Quetico Lake. I'm sure there are other good places but these two are both close to the Beaverhouse parking lot. --Goose
Soloing is sweet, but a good partner is "priceless."
