Hey guys. Looks like me and a buddy will have 4 nights in may. Still need to get a reservation. He would like to visit Ely so I'm guessing it makes sense to get a tow through Moose to PP. I've only been to the Q once. We went up Agnes and returned through the S chain. We'd like to do some fishing of course and are both in pretty good shape. From the little I know, I'd like to spend the last night on the way out in north bay.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.....

Classic is Kahshapiwi to Trant and down S chain. Allows cutting short by way of McNiece or Yum Yum. I did the loop very easy 5 nights out - 4 is easily possible. Stop at fire tower, poke around northern end of Kahs.

Totally different - Man Chain and back by border. No big water to speak of and no tough portages.

If you had another day I'd say Man Chain to Falls Chain to McEwen chain and you could cut across to North Bay - just a more aggressive route but great sights (and sites) and solitude.

Man Chain vs. Agnes; 2 permits per day vs. 7 per day (I think?). Recommend checking on line and seeing what's still available in May. --Goose

Thanks guys. You two in particular are always helpful. So I just was going through old posts to see where a fly-in would take me. I figure with the limited time, a fly in might make sense. I know it's not cheap, but that aside, if I did it to either Beaverhouse or Mack, it would certainly give me more fishing time. Any ideas on that angle? one site said fly-ins don't start till last week of may (we're planning a 5/16 entry). Does that make any sense?

My "logic" (or whatever) rules out a fly-in for just a 4 night trip. I'd consider a tow from Crane Lake across LLC to McAree or Bottle -- if I were free of "visit Ely" thing -- before a flight. (If Ely were out of the equation, you also open other options, such as Cache Bay entry.) If it were me, and "visit Ely" is not negotiable, I'd try for a Man Chain permit and spend time in the Carp-Sheridan-That Man-Emerald Lakes area. --Goose

How about shooting up to north bay and exploring that area?
