We are two 27 year old females with moderate experience in portaging. 1 Kevlar, two 55L packs, large bear barrel.
Day 1 of 4
Saturday, June 28, 2025 Poplar to Meeds was pretty straightforward, and there is a big green cabin on Poplar that assists with leading you to and from Rockwood outfitters. We went to the 288r, which I recommend doing FIRST rather than saving for the end of the trip if doing a loop.

288r was tough; steep inclines, lots of rocks, narrow, and mud/bugs. Careful about footing. Elevation changes drastically throughout. Not well-kept. If you need to do two trips, DO IT. Not worth the risk of twisting an ankle.

Stayed at site #617. Solid campsite, I'd give it a 6/10 rating. We wanted ANY campsite after the portage, and this one fit our needs just fine. Nice that it was on an island!
