Sorry, but is Ely Steak House open? Haven't kept up.

I was in Ely this past week and it was not open. First trip in years that didn't start with a bucky burger.

Tried to go there last night and definitely closed. Made the mistake of not looking for a dinner place until after 8. Dominoes was the only thing open we could find. Even BoatHouse was closed for a family death I believe.

I miss getting a good steak in Ely. I loved Sir Gs Italian, also gone. However, you can now get Thai and Vietnamese food. If you are looking for "fine dining" check out the Wilderness Grill at Fortune Bay Casino. Many of the small towns in the area also have Bar and Grills more like the Good Ole Ely.

RIP The Ely Steakhouse.
I will never forget your broasted chicken & fine cocktails.
I wish I’d have known late last season so I could have gone one last time & paid my respects in person; they had great staff as well & I hope to see some of them again.

Yes! Closure of the Ely Steak House really sucks. I'm sorry they couldn't make a go of it. Running an eating establishment in Ely has got to be a tough way of life.

My wife and I always ate dinner there the day we exited. We both crave a simple, crunchy salad...and they always had that. I'll miss the place.

I don’t have any insider knowledge to say for certain, though I think finding staff may have been a a contributing factor. It seems every business up here has a ‘Help Wanted’ sign. A new restaurant opened up where Red Rock used to be, Frisky Otter, & sauna scuttlebutt in the spring was that they were paying ‘top dollar’ for staff. I’ve heard (affordable) housing availability is a difficulty.

I was speaking with some of the businesses this morning and everyone mentioned seasonal employee housing is in a crisis mode. Everyone wants help apparently but no where to house them in town.

Just got back. Sir G's is also closed for good. There is a new place called the Frisky Otter across the street from the True Value and Theatre are. I think it used to be Rockwood and a few other things.

I tried to go to the Ely Steakhouse a couple times last year. The wait was over an hour each time so did something different…just didn’t have that kind of time unfortunately. I will miss it, gotta be hard to manage a place when you have times with too much business and what I assume is a dead time in the off season.
