Anybody else do loon surveys for the DNR? I'm doing one this year for the first time...Wilson Lake, north of Temperance R State Park.

Kinda stoked... setting the alarm for o'dark o'clock and heading up north in the morning. Wish I could go up tonight and camp, but I have a commitment in Duluth until 10pm today.

Enjoy yourself, but don't go looney on us ;)

It seems I haven't seen as many the last few years as I used to . . .

If you notice they like clear water lakes so they can see while diving and fishing. Much more abundant on those lakes.

The way the survey works is you pick from available lakes and have 10 days to do your survey. The one closest to me was Wilson Lake, N of the Grade Road. It was a great morning! Saw 4 adults, no young, also otters.....and a bobcat crossing FR 346!

Was out 6/30 to 7/5 ...snowback, Thomas, Fraser, kek. Saw lots of Loons and the most chick's I've ever seen.

Dogwood, I still see more loons than bobcats (0). Pretty cool sighting.

all clearwater lakes, much easier fishing for them. Also have you noticed how they got tamer the last couple of decades, you go back in the 1960's and 70's it was tough to get close to a loon and get a picture, now you can almost pet them at times. They have adjusted to humans over the years.
