TrailZen: "My 70+ year old knees still let me squat just fine in Quetico, thanks, but the link reminds me of an incident my wife had on a Girl Scout outdoor training. She suggested that girls/women who had trouble squatting use a tree for stability. The idea of checking the structural integrity of the tree was assumed to be obvious. One of the ladies dropped pants & undies, grabbed a small (DEAD!) tree, and did a 1-1/2 backward roll down the hill. The only injury was to dignity, fortunately.

This my preferred method, especially the part about checking the tree first.
