3rd week of August, I'm taking my 15 year old daughter on her 1st trip to the BWCA. I have a few questions. 1st question, I seen on another site, a gentleman had posted a couple years ago that you could avoid the portages into Lake One by heading east and through an inlet past the outfitters and down that way, but it was my understanding there is a dam that way and is very difficult to get by, can anyone confirm that? Also is it possible to get back to Climax lake, Delta, or Slowfoot lakes, thought they might be a good day trip to see 1 or 2 of them if it's possible. Also, any points of interest or fishing tips (bait and lures) while there? plan on being there Tuesday the 20th through Saturday. Thanks everyone, she's really excited for this trip!

Yes. Heading east from the entry point will take you through a very narrow inlet past Kawishiwi Lodge and Outfitters and get you into Lake One without needing to use the portages. It is a very calm and easy way to go.

The area with the damn and dangerous waters is a different area that people ask about to try to miss the portages from Lake One to Lake Two. That area is in the eastern part of Lake One near the furthest East campsite on Lake One that flows south into Lake Two.

Have fun! My favorite trips are my one on one adventures with our kids. Next week my 19 year old daughter and I are heading up to do some hiking and in mid August I’m taking our 5 year old son on his first bwca trip.

This is in the narrows leading to the outfitters on Lake One. I was there in April this year

I have never been to Delta or Slowfoot lakes but the map shows portages to them and a campsite on Delta. You would access those lakes by taking the portages from Lake Two through Rifle Lake.

Climax Lake may not be accessible unless the creek that flows out of it to Lake One is large enough.

I'll confirm that going east from the Lake One landing, through the narrow passage that goes north (short passageway), then east again to get to the narrow creek that takes you past Kawishiwi Lodge. This is an easy paddle.

I was there last fall and can confirm what the others said. Just go up the W shore from the EP past the island, head east toward the other side and then NE through the narrow passage and down into Lake One. If you look at the Maps & Entry Points tab above and look at Lake One EP, it'll be clear. There were a couple of low spots in the fall and a rock or two to watch out for, but you may not have that now.

This was my first Father-Daughter entrance point with my dad when I was about 14! We went towards the Kawishiwi river instead of Lake Two- great fishing on the river, not a tough trip, with a fair amount of logging artifacts to find- iron rings in the rocks, etc. Walking the 200 rod portage near Conchu lake has some cool waterfalls along the way too!

On some maps the narrow channel to skip portages into Lake One and that goes past Kawishiwi Lodge is obscured by a line marking the edge of the BWCA.
Been through there many times with no issues.
