Our group will be entering at Snowbank on 6/13. We will have 6 people, three canoes, staying for five days. We will likely be double-portaging. We will be a mix of tenters and hammockers. Our mission is relaxation, disconnecting, and fishing. Our target species is Walleye, but we are happy to catch Pike and Smallies, too. We are considering several options. Would welcome feedback from those more familiar with the area with thoughts on these options:

1. Basecamp at Disappointment
2. Basecamp at Jordan and Day Trip to Ima
3. Basecamp at Ima
4. Basecamp at Ensign

One big factor that will influence which direction we go will be how windy it is whe we need to cross Snowbank.

Any insights, ideas, or tips are welcome. Can't wait to be back in my happy place.

Put in very early on Snowbank. Be prepared to travel as far as Ima the first day. The probability for an open campsite on Disappointment will be small. Jordan has only 3 campsites, but maybe one will be open on the 13th.

Good advice, wind will be less of a factor early, give a better chance to get a site on Disappointment or Jordan, but allows time to get to Ima if everything is full.

Ensign in a good walleye lake and has dark water to make it easier to fish..I want to reiterate ...get across snowbank earlier. A small amount of wind on that lake can be trouble. Ima is more of a lake trout lake with clearer water I believe

If you decide on Ensign take a trip into Ashigan. It is an easy portage and has good smallmouth fishing. I’ve stayed on Ashigan a couple of times and day tripped to Ensign. I like staying on smaller lakes. The last time I was there we had put in at Snowbank hoping for an easy trip staying on Disappointment. Our site on Ashigan was the first open site we found.

Disappointment is properly named. I've never found an open campsite on that lake in 20+ in/out trips. Do not count on it. It will let you down. Plan to push through on the way in to at least Jordan or Ima. You will be happier. On the way out, you can go balls to the walls from Thomas all the way out in one long day. If, on that long day out, one of the sites on Ashub is available and you are tired, take it. Then blast out the next day to your Snowbank entry point.
