And just wanted to report how easy and smoothly it went. Today was first day not requiring a quarantine plan - which made ArriveCAN tough yesterday but easy today. Still not the best app but tolerable.
Anyway, showed up at the border of no wait, agent took our four passports, asked us our reason (shopping, day trip), and welcomed us to Canada. Equally easy returning to US. (We're all fully vaccinated.)

Bill, glad it worked out so well. Did each person have to fill out the information on their own ArriveCAN app or could you put the information for all of you on one person's app?

We did two. I did it Sunday to figure out but I helped sil and bil in morning. It sure seemed we could have done one. Probably 10-15 minutes a person. Maybe if you had all the info organized, a little less.

A cellphone is not needed to complete the ArriveCan app. I have used my laptop to complete the app. for nine trips since the border opened in August 2021. A laptop is easier and faster for me than a cellphone. One person can enter the information for all travelers in one app. And, the travelers' names will remain in your app. for a future trip. Using the app. becomes second nature after a few times.

Quarantine plan was required through past Sunday.

Just got back from a trip to Algonquin Park with my daughter and my dog. Crossed over to Canada at Port Huron and came back at Sault Ste Marie. Was the easiest and quickest border crossing I have ever had. Don't know if it was the time of year or the current state of things but there was absolutely nobody crossing. Also, the ArriveCAN app will take multiple travelers so you only need to fill it out once for everyone in the vehicle.

The quarantine plan was tough? I entered last September, and my quarantine plan was to stay at a motel in Armstrong. I didn’t even have a reservation and ended up not staying there that first night. I think the form asked if I could manage in isolation for 14 days. Well, it’s got running water and flush toilets, and I’ve got a bear barrel full of food so I recon I can. That was my plan. Maybe some made more elaborate plans than me.

Atb: "Do the border agents expect you to be masked in your vehicle?"
I just crossed a few weeks ago at Sarnia. The agent was masked and neither myself or my daughter were and he never questioned it. That being said, it's always a good idea to carry extras for everyone in your vehicle just in case.

I agree with dschult2 about having masks with you. I cross the border frequently at Sault Ste. Marie. Although I have not been processed for more than a month by a border agent wearing a mask, I always have one with me. Many employees at businesses in SSM wear masks. All employees at Tim Horton's wear masks. Also, random mandatory self-tests are still a possibility. Even for day trips. Be prepared to have plenty of data on your phone to do the self-test video conference. The instructions are crystal clear. I used a computer to complete my most recent self-test.

Do I understand correctly that you can not put information in the arrivecan app until you are within 72 hours of entering. I wanted to put the arrival date, vacs records, etc in now but it seems I need to wait.

You can enter and save your passport and vaccination info ahead of time, just not your arrival date, etc.

Good news.
Last fall we went to Wabakimi and both of us got pulled for a random covid test, which I suspect it was because our negative covid test was on our phones and not printed out. the agent looked a bit disgusted when we handed him our phones instead of a piece of paper. And he gave us the "next time" lecture on that. Thankfully there won't be a next time with no pre-crossing testing necessary now. The random covid test was a hassle, because it worked on my daughter's phone but not mine. You need to have international data, which some plans do not have.
I listed my quarantine plan as my outfitter's address...which was kind of tough to do because the app couldn't find the address... it was a hassle but it all worked out.
