Great pictures! The bear and the eagle are my favorites.

PineKnot,
What a fun read! You write in a way that makes me feel like I was along with you. What an amazing adventure. I'd love to do a long trip like that someday. (but not a solo, I don't think) Thanks for writing and sharing. :-)

Thanks Piney! I believe I enjoyed Part 2 better than Part 1, but together they make a wonderful story. Who knows, perhaps a great-great-grandchild will read it someday and be inspired to follow in your footsteps. Thanks for keeping your camera handy. The photos are beautiful.

Awesome story. Such perfect timing for me as I'm also doing a counter clockwise loop through the same area but Burt and Suz will be the furthest north I go. I'm hoping those campsites you stayed at there are open for me.

After reading what you went through on the death march, I'm pretty sure I won't ever tackle that solo. It's good that you are in fine shape because bad things could happen in those conditions.

I love the timer fish pics and will try to emulate those. I bought a small flexible gorilla tripod to stand on a pack or wrap around a thwart. I curious where you set the camera. It appears to be on the pack. That walleye is a beauty btw.

Well, I thank you for putting together such a fine report. I hope you let your students see it. It sure has ME inspired.

*Also, were you quoting Otto from "A Fish Called Wanda" when you spelled it disap-POINT-ed? :)

PineKnot - Thanks for bringing us along on your trip! Both installments were great! I liked the larger format and maps.
I am glad you survived the Death March. I could really feel that you were pushing yourself to the limit.
I thought you looked quite a bit thinner in the photos at the end of the report versus the beginning. I am glad you are feeling strong after the journey.
I wonder if anyone has ever messed with one of those land survey markers you came across. The thought of 7 years in an Ontario prison would persuade me not to move one!

Great Report. You are a true Canoe Country Ironman.

Any plans for a solo next year?

I used a borrowed Bending Branches 280 kayak paddle this year and really liked it.

PineKnot,
The 2ND segment was as enjoyable as the first. Hot, humid weather and portaging are a tough combination for me as well. Glad to see that the horseflies seemed to lessen considerably.
A fine trip report with outstanding pictures, thanks for taking us along.

Thx for taking the time to read my report. And thx for the kinds comments. I'm looking forward to next year's trips and reports. A couple of you had some questions I'll try to answer.

Missmolly: Instead of a journal, I bring a little Sony digital voice recorder. Let's me record up to 1000 messages with a total time over 130 hours. I've only recorded am hour or two on any given trip. It sure helps to keep events straight as some memories tend to blend together on a longer trip.

TomT: Saw that movie many years ago but don't recall the quote...it just came to me as I was writing my report.

Zulu: When I bent down to look at the survey marker, it was covered with dirt. Not until I couldn't pick it up and noticed the engraving covered with dirt did I realize what it was. Next year, I hope to do 2 or 3 trips, one being another solo. Not sure where yet, but may include Stanton Bay, the Falls Chain, or Ted.

Nice report PineKnot. Perhaps the N/E side of the park for you next year. I'd like to see your take on the Wawiag>Belaire>McKenzie>Fureguson>Kawnipi loop.

Wow, well done, excellent report (both part 1 &2) What a great trip.

Great report, Pineknot! My son and I were through part of your route in June. Loved that Burt Lake site and had a tremendous rain there.

Way cool that you included the Death March Portages on your route! When I was through there many years ago we lost the trail on the final portage to Delahey, as it fizzled out in the woods. Spent four hours bushwacking to the lake and got there at dark.

I hope your sons join you again on many future trips! There is nothing better...

Pineknot: Excellent trip report - loved both parts. Your photography was outstanding - I enjoyed all the pictures, but thought the pictures on Suzanette with the water looking like glass and your cereal bowl and coffee cup on the rock - were outstanding. This was the trip of a lifetime - over 100 miles - unbelieveable! Great job!
