Hoping to build my own pulk during autumn this year.
If anyone else has ever wanted to build their own pulk…
As of now I’m planning to follow Midwest Backpackers Plan
And just scored the ERA Pro sled at REI for 50% off!

Have fun!
I've been using my version 2 diy pulk for a long time now, and it has held up well. I want to do a version 3 sometime but it hasn't risen to the top of the priority list yet.
There's more than one way to do it. One thing I don't like about what most YouTube videos suggest is all the threaded fasteners and other metal hardware to connect the poles to the sled. It just seems out of place and unnecessary to me. I just run a tensioned rope through the sled and through the poles to the belt.
I can't quickly disconnect the poles from the sled (that will be a design goal for version 3), but they fold back along the sled for storage/transport and it isn't too unwieldy in that configuration.

I did the same thing and couldn't be happier with the finished product. Finding a good belt proved more difficult than the build. Now to wait for the snow...

I'm planning on getting the hip belt one from Ski Pulk when I order the other components per Midwest Backpackers instructions.
My sled came in. I picked it up from REI because to have them ship was going to negate any savings I would have gotten! But its now in my garage, and I can start my building process.
Going on Amazon tonight to get the webbing straps, but I will need to think about what color I want to get!

Looks like REI still has these on sale, too bad I'm 3 hours from the nearest one.
Found one of these though, is the price too good to be true for a pulk sled? Some of the reviews talk about deer hunting and hauling gear. It's only slightly larger than the ERA sled.

I have used a smalll plastic sled like you can find sometimes in a grocery store. I made a crossed pole set up for my dog to pull it with a regular sled dog harness. Then skiing is not so top heavy. There is room for more clothes and two sleeping bags and good pads. She carried around 25 pounds in the sled.
The old ways are the best ways.
