Hello all,
The wife and I were about to make a reservation to enter through Prairie Portage next week, but before we do, I'm just wondering if anyone knows the condition of the portages in that part of the park. Honestly, we're not exactly sure where we'll go--maybe up Agnes, maybe up Kash, maybe farther west, or maybe up the Man Chain (we like playing things by ear....and there aren't all that many permits still available).
I know that's a big area, but did the blowdown that caused so much destruction on Basswood do much damage up in Quetico?
Thanks for any info!
Carmike

I figured I'd answer my own question in case anyone else is planning to head up soon.
I spoke to a guy on the phone who's in charge of sending out portage crews to fix any trouble. He said that the area northeast of Prairie Portage got hit pretty hard, especially in the Emerald and Man Chain areas. The portage to Poacher is also in rough shape.
Other than that, he didn't have much information, other than that the areas farther north and west of PP (up near and past Sarah) are just fine.
We're entering Agnes on Monday. Whether or not the Meadows are passable remains to be seen. :)

It's been almost two weeks so I think they would have heard if the Meadows portages were impassable given the amount of traffic they get. Poacher and Man Chain impact makes sense given how the storm damage stretched ENE out of Ely.
Vast areas of the BW were unaffected and I think that was probably true in Quetico too. Of course, here on the Echo Trail I just got done clearing the last of the downed spruces on my little trail system today . . .
