Yeah, I also told them good luck. One guy has decided to ditch the hammock and use a tent. I have a feeling his tent will be a little crowded with his son and son's friend after the first night. You can only tell people so many times and then they have to learn the hard way.

The mosquito situation is so variable and difficult to predict.

Have they slept in those hammocks before with mosquitoes around? I don't actually recall anyone that I have ever canoed with in BWCA that wanted to "sleep under the stars" more than one night when the mosquitoes were out. Not only that but mice can be very friendly as well in some campsites.

Anyway, good luck to them.

AmarilloJim: "Try to get camp sites in the elevated rockier areas and stay away from the lower level areas. Hope they at least have tarps?"

They will have tarps over them and I've advised them to bring head nets.

Much of a daytime bite in deep water or mainly mornings and evenings? I'll be fishing the same areas I fish in late June so I guess it's just going to be a matter of finding the right depth. I'm bringing deep-diving cranks so I'll try to get them down around 30 feet.

Thanks for your input

I was on Saganagons last August and found walleyes in the usual spots you'd find them in June, but just deeper. Bugs were not bad at all except as the sunset. Nice time of year to be up there. Stable weather patterns.

I will base camp on Saganagons during the week of August 20th. I've never been that late in the season. I need a little help with summer-pattern fishing, lure choice and technique. I've always been last week of June.

Also, I'm taking several newbies with me. Some are going to use open hammocks for sleeping. Will there be much of a situation with mosquitoes that time of the year? I know it depends on several variables, but in general. Thanks.
