08/22/2018 07:27PMmolshove: "Thanks for sharing, sounds like an awesome trip! What else were you throwing, other than the shad rap?" When trolling I used the silver/grey Shad Rap, a purple Scatter Rap and a purple Tail Dancer. The Shad Rap got the most action, the scatter rap second and that's the one I lost to the fish and the purple tail dancer never had a strike. And I know it's supposed to be a good lure for up there. Go figure... molshove: "Is there an easy way to identify without cutting the fish up? I've never gone after lakers, primarily walleye, but would like to snag one this upcoming trip." I don't know of any way. If anyone does know, I hope they can share the info. molshove, just go for it. Don't over-think it. I'm not really a fisherman and I think we did well. Bring the right lures, fish the right areas of a known lake trout lake and you will most likely catch a lake trout if you put in enough time. Do a little searching on this site and you will find pages of valuable information that will help bring success to your fishing endeavors. |

They are subpar eating, in my opinion, no matter how you cook them. To my taste buds, a "red" cooked in tin foil over the fire is about as good as it gets. I think part of the problem was how we cooked it in the BW, wrapped in foil over the fire. I fried the Splake in smokin' hot oil. The one in BW was also a texture issue. The meat was very mushy. |

08/10/2018 11:55PM Great report, and bummer about the trout. Was the flesh white...or was it pinkish/orangish/reddish? The "white" ones aren't as good eating, which is why I'm asking. |
