07/23/2018 11:26AM If your trip dates are locked in and you're going 3rd week of May I would be looking for warm water. Fish the shorelines that have had the most wind lately as the wind will push the warm water up against those shorelines. Pay attention to the wind of the day but also the wind from the past few days, that will tell you which shorelines to focus on. Also if the lakes you're on have any sort of current from river inlets that is also a good place to try. Walleye will be spawning around that time and they spawn in areas of sand/small gravel where the water is moving either from current or wind. Of course first make sure the lake you are on has walleye, thats an important first step. If you've got a route planned start researching the lakes along your route. The MN DNR website has a lakefinder with detailed notes on fish population in each lake. |

07/22/2018 06:30PM Planning a trip for the 3rd week of May in 2019, was wondering if anyone has some helpful information about what lakes and presentation to get on the allusive walleye? I'm an avid angler from Kansas, never been able to catch any in the lakes down here and I'd like to catch my first walleye so I can try it in my diet. Never had it before. Guess you could say it's on my bucket list. Any information on helping me fulfill my dream would be very much appreciated. Thanks guys and be safe out there. |
